The Written Years are an ever-evolving collective. Officially founded in early 2013 by childhood classmates, Wade Ouellet and Kane Enders, the Vancouver-based pair have continually teamed up with close friends in the writing, recording, and presentation of each release. Among this pool of collaborators was longtime contributor and now-permanent bassist, Brian Dyck.
In January of 2014, the group (alongside guitarist, Kodie Krogh) independently released their debut self-titled record after six years of writing and recording. The album garnered widespread critical acclaim and quickly adopted the label of “Winter Music”, often attributed to the nostalgic lyrical themes and warmly isolating atmosphere. Grounded by Ouellet’s acid-tinged vocals, Enders’ triumphant drum lines, and Krogh’s memorable guitar melodies, the release pulled influence from various alt rock, post rock, and traditional folk heroes while employing a large cast of additional contributors.
Following a year of supporting performances and an additional EP, The Written Years (now also outfitted with current lead guitarist, Alex Richardson) have retained their solemn and cinematic nature while beginning to further adapt their post rock and electronic influence. The sophomore chapter is due out for release in early 2018.
